Chef Joey Lopez
Los Angeles, CA
A Bronx-bred culinary professional, Chef Joey Lopez’s gastronomic journey has taken him from the urban kitchens of New York to the culinary capitals of San Francisco and Los Angeles. His experience reflects a career shaped by strong mentorship, diverse culinary environments, and a passion for creating thoughtful, memorable food and beverage experiences.
Chef Joey began his culinary voyage at the prestigious California Culinary Academy, where he honed his skills while training among the culinary luminaries of The Carnelian Room and the Michelin-starred The Fifth Floor. Returning to his roots in the Big Apple after graduation, he joined the esteemed kitchen of Iron Chef Susur Lee’s only U.S. restaurant, Shang, where he explored culinary theatrics, bold flavors, and fusion cuisine under the guidance of Chef Doron Wong. His journey continued through leadership roles at distinguished establishments including Eventi Hotel, Gansevoort Hotel, and Tryp Hotel.
Relocating to Los Angeles opened the door to a wide range of culinary opportunities, including roles with Asa Meza, Mama Shelter, CookUnity, Luque’s Catering, Love Catering, and LIME Studios. His experience across hotels, restaurants, catering, studio kitchens, and event production helped shape a versatile approach rooted in both creativity and operational execution.
Chef Joey’s passion for innovation later led to the creation of his own culinary brand, Urbane Chow, just before the onset of the pandemic. More recently, he brought his leadership and culinary experience to Hollywood Improv, further expanding his background in high-volume hospitality and entertainment-driven food service.
Currently, Chef Joey leads food and beverage at The Preserve, formerly known as Second Home, a sprawling two-acre workspace and event destination in Los Angeles. In this role, he focuses on culinary development, café offerings, catering menus, seasonal event menus, and creating thoughtful food and beverage experiences tailored to members, clients, and private events.
With a career spanning fine dining, hospitality, catering, entertainment venues, and workplace hospitality, Chef Joey continues to bring a thoughtful balance of flavor, organization, and hospitality to every culinary experience he creates.
